Stalking wild boar in Portugal by moonlight, brilliant. My guide, Tiago, is very knowledgeable and arranged stalks in open areas as I'd brought a rifle with me and was using an optical 'scope.

Two stalks were amongst the best I've ever enjoyed. For the first of these, using a thermal we spotted some boar on the opposite hillside across a dried river bed, and at 470m I was going to need to get a lot closer. The approach meant we had to go back, then down to the river bed, cross it, up the other side and all without being able to see the boar at all. Three small boar appeared on the skyline, let them go. Creep up a bit further and hide under a cork oak tree. Twenty metres
away were maybe seven boar and they had no idea we were there. "Close enough for you now?"

For the second stalk the wind was flukey. We could see the boar on thermal, but as they were shaded from the moonlight by a few trees I couldn't see them on my 'scope. Wait. They scented us and decided to move out by climbing a hill opposite, not in any hurry but they were leaving. Their mistake, now they were in full moonlight against a light background, one turned and presented. The shot sounded good to me but Tiago could see nothing on thermal. Then we both heard it, scratching and rustling, closely followed by a large boar slowly crossing the hillside higher up, then disappearing into thick scrub. Was that my boar? Was it injured? My heart sank. Tiago looked at me, OK, we need to check out the shot site. After a scramble over rocks and up the hillside there was my boar lying in a little hollow. The large boar must have been in cover all the time, deciding to leave after hearing the shot.

Five boar in total, it would have been more using an NV or thermal 'scope but for me those tools are for management jobs.

It's a wonderful place to go hunting, I thoroughly recommend it. And as for the Portuguese food, :-)

I was able to tag a small hunting trip onto the tail of my wife’s vacation to Scotland. Sergio picked us up and within no time we were glassing deer. He put a couple of stalks together that worked out stellar. I was able to harvest a couple of trophies . When we were not hunting he kept me busy with small game . I had a great time it could not have been better.
My wife stayed at a cottage and relaxed and read books . We would go for walks in the afternoon and saw plenty of game . What a great time I can’t say enough.
I can’t wait to get back!

Sergio, along with his amazing dogs, delivered the complete Scottish hunting experience for me and my son. Thanks to his years of experience and expertise on firearms and stalking, Sergio enabled us to have a truly remarkable hunt, which provided us with wild game meat and amazing stories to share with friends and family. We look forward to our next adventure!
